THE new company in charge of running the Cleveland Aquatic Centre says it will not make radical changes at the local pool.
Belgravia Health and Leisure Group promised to offer “continuity of service” for patrons when it reopened the pool last Thursday. The pool had been closed for maintenance work since late June.
Belgravia, a Melbourne-based company that runs seven other pools in South East Queensland, has taken over from local swimming identity David Urquhart, who failed in his bid to win a new 15-year contract.
Belgravia Queensland manager Dan Cullen said the national company was “very excited” to win the Redland City Council tender.
“Our mandate is to continue the community service that’s been offered,” he said.
“We’re not coming in to make sweeping changes from day one. We want to see what’s working.”
Mr Cullen said learn-to-swim classes, aqua aerobics and swim squad programs would start this week and the gymnasium would be fitted out with new equipment.
Former Lawnton aquatic centre manager Neil Dransfield will be responsible for day-to-day operations at the Cleveland facility.
The centre is next to the fire station on Russell Street and can be contacted on 3286 2723.
