A NEW timetable will take effect on the Cleveland railway line next week.
Timetable changes introduced four months ago added up to 15 minutes of travelling time to some express services, sparking a flood of complaints from commuters.
A TransLink spokes-man said Queensland Rail had listened to the feedback and would start a new timetable on Monday, July 28.
“The timetable will ensure faster travel times during morning peak hour services for both all stations and express services,” he told the Bayside Bulletin.
“The stopping pattern of one outbound peak hour service in the afternoon has also been extended.”
The previous time-table, which took effect on March 31, drew sharp criticism from both sides of politics after it was introduced.
Coalition transport spokesman Tim Nicholls said authorities had failed to consider the effect on commuters, while State Labor Member for Cleveland Phil Weightman said the schedule was “not an improvement”.
Mr Weightman welcomed next week’s changes, saying he was happier with the new timetable.
“This should be an improvement,” he said.
Patronage figures show nearly 8000 people travel on the Cleveland railway line between Cleveland and Buranda during the morning peak period.
Almost 6700 passengers have been recorded travelling between Buranda and Cleveland during the afternoon peak period.
Commuters can provide feedback on the new timetable by contacting TransLink on 131 230.
