BAYSIDE brunette Michelle McNamee hopes to follow in the footsteps of former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins.
The Alexandra Hills resident, 19, will compete against other hopefuls from around Australia in Melbourne next week for a chance to represent the nation at the international Miss Universe beauty contest.
The aspiring television presenter is one of three Queenslanders left in the competition after being short-listed at the state finals at the Emporium in Brisbane on Monday.
Apart from modelling outfits and swimwear, contestants also had to answer interview questions about their hopes and dreams in life.
Michelle, who has been modelling for about a year, said the experience was nerve-racking but she looked forward to the national finals on Wednesday.
The local beauty therapist said she had always wanted to enter the Miss Universe competition and one day hoped to star on a travel program such as The Great Outdoors.
“I do a bit of dancing … and go to the gym a little bit, but not as often as I should,” she said.
