Redlands bocce players to represent Queensland

15/05/2008 4:11:00 PM
THREE Redland Bocce Club players have won places in the Queensland team following outstanding efforts at the recent State Bocce Titles held at the Redlands Sporting Club, Wellington Point.

Pio Bunin won the men’s division, while Simon Topatig came third, and Barbara Jones finished second in the women’s division.

Barbara has never missed a spot in the state team since women were introduced to the national arena in 1995.

The jostle for places in the state team at the titles was intense, with many close tussles.

A Redlands Bocce Club spokesman said the successes the club continues to enjoy were largely attributable to “the support from the Redlands Sporting Club’s marvellous facilities and some very dedicated athletes who strive for excellence”.

The 2008 National Bocce Titles will be hosted at the Redlands Sporting Club Bocce Drome, Wellington Point over the Queen’s Birthday weekend in June.

To date, Redlands Bocce Club has only hosted a national juniors titles and is excited about having the Senior Nationals at home in the Redlands.
